| My horses got their annual shots last Friday morning. They had the usual mild mild fever for couple days but my gelding got a bit of a sore neck where the 3 way/tetanus was given. Nothing to where he was really stiff or not able to put his head down. Etc. just sore if you rubbed it hard. No outward signs of swelling
Or heat but if you push deep on that side you can feel a deep lump/ stiffness in there. I have had him on previcox last couple days and itβs way way better but not totally over it. Today was day 3 since vaccines. How long can it take ? Like a week ? Thanks. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | for some reason my pally always gets sore in his neck after his yearly vaccs. It doesnt get bad but it will get stiff to where he cant flex all the way. No other symptoms or issues and he normally comes out of it after 4-5 days. |

The one with the sore neck got banamine the actual day of the shots because he typically runs a really high fever for a few days so we decided banamine would be best. On day 3 he had no fever just the sore neck so I started the previcox. I let him have couple days with NOTHING so the banamine and previcox didn't overlap. I think next year I will just use bute like you say from the very beginning. I bet those 2 days with nothing let the soreness really set in. |

I started doing bute because one year I had a lesson the day after shots and asked my vet if he had something to give him to prevent soreness. All he did was give an IV liquid bute. |

Location: Lost in the swamps | Going thru this right now! Horses were vaccinated on Monday. Tuesday morning one was lethargic.
Wednesday morning the other one was pawing his food because he couldn't put his head down. Thought he was colicing! But when I noticed the big lump on his neck I knew it was from the vaccinations.
I'm icing his neck a few times, Then will apply absorbine. And gave them bute.

once its been a couple days heat works better than cold on these sorts of things, so it may be worth putting a hot pack on it for 15-20 min |

I would keep an eye on that big lump to make sure it dont abscess. |

Attitude, temp and appetite are normal at the moment.

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I give all shots in the pec muscle. Works like a charm. They don't fight it, if it does swell it they can still put their head down to eat/drink, but so far I have never had an issue. |

Thanks for this! I'll be trying it this year. My mare gets to the point she can't put her head down at all for two days, even with bute before. She gets locked up so she's getting enough hay and water, and hand walked after I get home. |
