Location: Willows, CA | I have been getting a lot of calls about switching from Renew Gold to Renew Gold Senior. The Senior is not meant to be a Renew Gold replacement unless your horse falls into one of two categories. First, is "active senior". This would be a older horse that has had an active life and is still used on a daily basis for more than just the occasional ride. The second category would best be described as the "road warrior". This horse would be any age horse used almost daily in heavy work and trailered often. Senior is designed for basic joint support, and quicker recovery times by healing micro muscle injury from hard effort faster, thus getting the horse back to work with shorter down time. These two features are not needed by every horse, and if your horse is performing to its potential on original Renew Gold, there is no reason to change. Retail pricing on the Renew Gold Senior is going to be around $50 per 30 pound bag. This translates to $1.67 per day, versus an average cost for original Renew Gold of $1.13 per day. This is a minimum of $.54 per day per head difference. If your horse can benefit from a toxin binder, parasite inhibitor, Joint support, quicker recovery times between runs and slightly more digestible energy then the price difference is a great deal. For those horses who don't need those features, spending the $.54 per head per day on better hay would be a good choice.

Location: Louisiana | I have a gelding that could benefit from all of the above... but he's also a hard keeper and when I give him RG (not currently but have in the past) I give him double what I give my others. Does the senior have any additional benefits for a hard keeper, or would I be better off combining the two formulas for this one horse to save on cost? |

There can be an underlying reason that a horse is a hard keeper. Please give me a call and we can go over the details of this horse to see if we can't resolve that. As to mixing the two formulations, that would be fine. But, Senior is more energy dense and digested quicker.
