I could really use some help with finding out what percentage foundation my mare is!! I've tried myself to figure out but I keep losing my place!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Link to her pedigree is here: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/lil+peppys+tari+oak
Also, what are y'all's thoughts on Foundation Quarter Horses and their athleticism? I fell in love with my dad's Blackburn years ago and he recently passed away, so I'm currently looking into competing on another.

This is my mare... her sire is 87% foundation. She is very athletic and has made a good barrel horse. If I could ride better she would be even better lol. She is a very pretty mare, but best of all has been very very sound.

You can go to the Foundation QH Association and they will figure it out for you for $17.98.   I did my little mare and she was 68%.  They need to be 85% and you can get them registered as a FQH.  (not that it means a whole lot)   https://www.fqha.com/

Blackburns are big in ND. A few awesome breeding programs focus on the Blackburn line. I am no help on % foundation.

There are a lot of Blackburn horses up in my area and everyone seems to love them! Makes me want one too! I had a 98% FQH who was a jam up pole horse. Solid barrel horse too but he didnt really care for them much so I made sure pole bending was his main job because he LOVED them!  Just because they are "foundation" doesnt make them more or less athletic than your non-foundation horse in my opinion.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/little+joseph+man - I miss this horse everyday! But this was my guys pedigree.

Three Bars is not Foundation. I calculated your horse to be 90.4% foundation.

This is my mare that is registered with FQHA. She is 96.88% Foundation. It's interesting to me another poster said her horse loved poles, because this mare is smooth and easy as pie to run in the poles. She took to running poles like white on rice. She's the 3/4D Barrel queen, but she was always winning big pole classes.

She's not big - 14.2, but smooth as glass to run.
