Hi ladies, Iβm recently back riding after having two babies, I put my horses on hold. Iβve started riding again and hope to be competitive within the next year. My problem is, Iβve trained my horse from the ground up
(heβs 5
) and am just doing time only here and there. Problem being, I am not as confident as when I was younger and pre babies. I have anxiety about where to take him and what rules have changed since I raced and the cards I need....Yada yada. Anyone here go through the same type of situation?? I raced a ton when I was younger, then started roping and training, then had two kids and want to start racing again. How did you overcome anxiety or obstacles when starting, even as a beginner, how did you gain your confidence?

The struggle is real! I am rowing a similar boat myself. You just have to load up and go. At least that is what I am doing. Strap the helmet on, enter up, go run. I have made about 7 runs since I had my son in December of '16. The first few were bottom of the 4D. My horse is easily a solid 2D horse. It was a little embarrassing, but I had to start somewhere and everyone has been supportive. Last week we ran four tenths off and I am still holding on for dear life and only a passenger. My goal is to be actually jockeying my horse by June and hopefully entering or at least exhibitioning at some local rodeos by August/September. Setting goals has really helped me too. My first goal was to enter and complete a pattern. LOL Next one was to ride two handed between barrels. Having super simple goals has really helped me build confidence and progress.

I lost all my confidence after a major hip reconstruction/replacement I went from a fusion to a replacement and it killed my confidence on top of being off my horse for a 2 years.
I started by riding everyday doing slow drills and loping with out my stirrups then built up to exhibitions, then to my older take care of me iv ran for years on years horse. Built up confidence on him that I could still ride, then for the first time last night I took a "step up horse" and cruised him through for a solid 3d time. iv learned to run day by day and race by race. its been tough cause I want it all back now but at the same time I step back and look I feel blessed just to be back going and i'm enjoying it again! I'v learned patience! this has been over a 6 month span. just gotta set goals and go for it. haul haul haul as much as possible!
The more you haul you will get back in the loop of things.
keep your personal goals in reach and what others think wayyyyy in the back!
