Anyone on here do leather tooling? Either as a business or just a hobby? I'd really like to try but lost as to where to begin. Any tips? I've done a bit of research to see if there is anyone in my area to ask and learn from but so far nothing. Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have a Tandy’s nearby? They usually do some classes

My husband has tooled leather  (saddlemaker) for over 50 years. If you can not find someone in your area, I second the option of finding a Tandy's ....they do have classes for beginners. Also, they sell several good books on tooling. My suggestion is to start little and not buy a whole lot of tools until you find out IF you really like it. I think there are some YouTube videos out too although I have never watched them to see if they are good or easy to learn from watching.

I do some leather work, mostly strap goods and not tooling though.  Makers Leather Supply has some good information they pass on when they do their Monday night live videos.  Find them on Facebook.  Weaver also has some good YouTube videos as does Bruce Cheaney

Bruce Cheaney is awesome! His dad, Jack Cheaney was a great saddle maker as well-

I dabble in leatherwork. I have not found a teacher near me at all. So far I’ve learned everything from books and YouTube. There is so much information from those two sources that you can pretty much teach yourself anything. I’d still love to find a mentor though!

You can go on to Tandy's website and it has some tutorial videos on tooling leather.

Thank you everyone :) I looked, there is a Tandy leather not too far from me, I’ll definitely look into their classes. And YouTube. Thanks!
