Okay I know I’m getting a little ahead of myself here.

I have a mare that’s getting bred right now. She was my futurity horse for this year but we ended up finding a neck injury which caused her to have a hole in both hind suspensorys. She’s getting a year off so we decided to take this chance to use a breeding that I had. She’s getting bred right now but this is the first mare I’ve ever bred.
If she takes... what feeding program does everyone use on broodmares? What special requirements do they have? She’s not an easy keeper but she’s not a super hard keeper either. I wish I could put her on pasture for the first part of the pregnancy but unfortunately right now we only have access to stalls. I prefer forage only diets but I am aware of the extra needs they have at the end of the pregnancy and while nursing.

How long will she have to be stalled?? Will she have any turnout?

She doesn’t have to be stalled but where I live right now there is only stalls. They’re not box stalls they have big runs on them. I just don’t have access to pasture unless I were to try to rent a pasture somewhere or something

Doesn't sound like your situation is very conducive to raising babies. Not what you asked but true.

I have to know though.

How does a neck injury cause suspensory Lesions?

I use a very simple feeding program along with a good worming program.
This is my year round feeding program.

WHOLE OATS 3 lbs
16% SWEET FEED 3 lbs
this is for the corn// carbohydrates

1 BLOCK OF ALFALFA /DAY
HAY OR GOOD PASTURE 24/7

MOORMANS GroStrong minerals item 641
just throw a handful/day in mares feed
This is a very important part of my feeding program ..
the results using this on all my horses is very evident ..
https://www.admanimalnutrition.com/webcenter/portal/ADMAnimalNutriti...

THAT'S ALL NO OTHER SUPPLEMENTS

This simple all natural feeding program insures Mom has the balance of CA//PHOS
not only to maintain her but for the unborn foal too. It sure makes a difference
in their health for life and when born!!

VERY IMPORTANT WORMING ..
Guess foaling date and try to worm mare with ivermectin 10-14 days prior to
foaling. Mother Nature gives the foal the instinct to eat some of its Mom's
poop in order to start their good gut bacteria. By worming prior .. baby does
not get a gut full of worm eggs!! (So, clean your run of old manure prior to foaling)

WORMING BY HOLIDAYS
NEW YEARS ….
QUEST kills everything for the winter..90 day wormer

IVERMECTIN ..
give her the entire tube on the following Holidays
EASTER
MEMORIAL DAY
JULY 4TH
LABOR DAY
HALLOWEEN
then start all over on New Years ..
Take note..
these Holidays fall 60 days apart which is correct for Ivermectin.

By following the above … first worming for foal does not happen until weaned
at 6 months old with the round worm wormer with the P word .. lol
Given with their first shots for EEE WEE, Tetanus that's all

This my results …. baby... DIAMONDS N THE SKY .. 2 weeks old

Just because I’m renting a place that has stalls??? I think most horses are kept in stalls. They’re 18’x24’ not like she lives in a box. And I’m not there permanently it’s not like that’s where the baby will grow up. If you knew half of how these horses are treated you’d change that statement. I would give up my house so that the horses would have a proper place to live. I would give up everything for my horses. I am the farthest thing from an irresponsible owner. Don’t give advice on what you don’t know just because you’re hiding behind a screen. Mind your own %@*&%ing business *****. If someone I trusted (breeder, vet, nutritionist) said she has to be on pasture to have a healthy baby I would find a pasture and put her on it. Just wanted to see what everyone does
