I just started to notice that my horse can't seem to want to keep both hind feet down when standing. This past weekend I noticed while just sitting on her she would keeping resting each back foot, and now I'm noticing her doing it in the stall. She doesn't seem to do it outside. She has gone all winter with no shoes and I did have shoes put on her 3 weeks ago, could this be it? No swelling or heat, I can mess around with picking up her feet no problem. Am I just being too paranoid and being a helicopter horseowner?

****THANK YOU Board buddies! Had a vet who is now full time chiro/acupunture come out to evaulate my horse. SI issues all the way!!! Thank you for your advice! She had full chiro work and than the acupunture which I think made the biggest difference. She's about 80 percent better, has a follow up appointment in 2 weeks. THANK YOU for the best advice!!!

****

I don't think it's a foot issue. I would look higher up...start at fetlock, hock, stifle and so on. But when I have noticed my mare doing this she was out in her hip/SI area and just needed a simple chiropractor adjustment. I would start with that and see if there is a difference...then move on to a lameness exam.

We injected one for kissing spines last August who always seemed to be resting one leg, or standing camped out like he was going to pee. Made a world of difference in those things plus performance issues we were having. The day we took him in he passed a lameness exam with flying colors. We’d notice back soreness after roping so we did X-rays since we were there.

He’s still working great, but we’ve noticed the camping out is slowing returning on and off so we are keeping a close eye on him.

Thanks for the information! I'm going to have a chiro check her out and if no improvement have her checked at the vet (kissing spine). She bucks and kicks out alot and not sure if she tweaked something.
