Location: the land of dust & sticks | so I have this horse who’s shoulders aren’t even and the saddle keeps wanting to go to the low shoulder side. This horse is being worked on by chiropractor and farrier. I’ve tried every saddle and blanket combo I have (& I have a bunch) nothing has cured it, some are better than others....so my question is would a blanket that has a removable insert help? Put insert on low side and take the one out on the normal side?? Any experiences/ suggestions appreciated. Thank you. |

Location: Muskogee, OK | Have you had a veterinarian look at this horse? That is where I would start. It sounds to me like he could have a possible lameness issue that is causing muscle atrophy on one side vs. the other (ie: he uses one side more than the other from a lameness problem which causes the side he uses more to develop more muscle vs. the side he doesnt use properly to atrophy.)
Another problem that can cause asymmetric muscle atrophy is EPM. So regardless, I think it would be worth having a veterinarian take a look. Good luck! |

Location: Central Texas | That is exactly what I do with mine. I'm having good results with Thinline.
Double J saddlery said they can build a saddle and put extra padding on one side of the saddle, that can removed later. |

| What’s this horses job today?
I would consider no riding for a while and lunging in a training rig (like a Pessoa system) and ground driving to build muscle without the interfearance of a saddle, pad, and rider. That is going to be the quickest way to even out muscle, IMO. If she’s on a feeding program to promote muscle building, with the right workout regime you should see solid results within 30 days and I think the saddle fitting track will be easier.

I have always preferred a thick fleece or wool (not 5 star never used one way too spendy for me... Lol)
They will naturally compress to the horse and the saddle over time so each horse has their one and its like a custom pad in no time at all. |
