Location: USA | Ok a little info first. This mare is built downhill and does not have a defined set of withers. Isn't mule backed by any means though. Neither my Pozzi or Shiloh Contender fit - the bar angle on both is too narrow. This bar angle is 46 degrees with a regular 6.5" QH gullet. Compared to my other two, I feel this one's bar angle matches her shoulder angle way better. If you look at the picture which shows the right shoulder, the leather is curved up. There is flare to this tree, but I don't know how much, nor do I know how much rock it has. Anyone know the contender's bar angle? I think the pozzi is 45. In the last picture you can see it tilts up in the back, but I don't think it's too big up front. I think it tilts because she's so downhill. Thoughts???

I think it looks good -- not a lot of room for a thick pad. How does she ride in it? |

I havenβt ridden in it yet. I have the opportunity to try the 7β gullet, but I wanted opinions first on this one. The bar angle is the same. Iβm going to try it out tonight. |

Saddle is sitting "perched" on the back (gullet too narrow), and the bar angle is too narrow.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | This saddle sits to perched for my likes, I like seeing a saddle fit to where is forms to a horses back not perched. No contact in the gullet area, and this will really sore up your horse in a hurry.

Location: who knows? | That saddle doesn't fit to my liking either. Like everyone is saying..in my opinion it sits up on her not around her. I have a mare that has big shoulders set back further in her back like yours. I ride in a 71/2 finalist. You may want to try a Flying M (Shiloh) as well. They have a flatter bar pattern on them. But I wouldnt go any smaller than a 71/2 on that tree either. |

I think it looks good -- not a lot of room for a thick pad. How does she ride in it? I haven’t ridden in it yet. I have the opportunity to try the 7” gullet, but I wanted opinions first on this one. The bar angle is the same. I’m going to try it out tonight.
There is always the "you can't tell if a saddle fits by looking at pictures" but I do think that there are too many saddles that are too wide (too wide an angle) and do more harm than good (and a lot of times you can see that by looking)-- if you say there is a 7" with the same angle then it is great you have 2 options, already.
I really believe after studying for over a decade, that most horses have the same "angle" just are wider than others.
I would feel all under it, between the bars and your horses back. I would ride in it, with different thicknesses in pads. Evaluate how your horse backs up, turns tight, and performs on the pattern at a fast speed. It will take several rides.
I've tried so many saddles that seemed like a better fit, but after a while, learned they weren't doing my horse favors. I also don't care for thick padding, because when you get up in the gullet with a 1" pad, for example, you are actually putting well over 1" padding in between your horse and the bars, so pads may not help a saddle fit, but they will sure help a saddle NOT fit. Just a few thoughts :)
Let us know what you figure out!
