Smallest box possible.

You’ll need to use the online calculators that the 3 major shippers have on their websites to determine who is cheapest. IMO it largely depends on where you are at and where the saddle is going who’s cheapest.

UPS is my go to, but they are also most convenient for me too.

We have a FedEx account, so that is cheapest for us. Otherwise probably UPS...never sent one USPS, I think it would be too big for them.

You can use any of the 3. I always purchase my box at Home Depot or Lowes for around $3.00 instead of paying $30 for one at UPS.

I miss living close to home depot for this reason! Their extra heavy moving boxes are FANTASTIC for shipping saddles.

The last one I shipped I stacked 2 regular thickness boxes inside one another with a ton of tape because the last saddle I had shipped to me came with the box pretty well destroyed.

If you know anyone who has a FedEx account, it is your best bet. My husband's company has one, so I can ship a saddle pretty much anywhere for less than $50 including insurance. Without an account, it would be about $80-90ish. In the past, I used UPS and had to pay $100ish.

I've used USPS for many saddles, I don't think I've ever paid more than $65, and that was for one halfway across the country. Use the smallest box you can, makes a big difference.

Best and most economical way I’ve ever seen for saddles is USPS

Wow - good to know! I've even got a saddle box sitting in the back room at the office, just in case I need it, again, from a recent purchase, but didn't know there was a difference if I used the office account.

The smaller and tighter the box the better for your saddle so it dont move around and the shipping is cheaper on the smallest box you can get your saddle in, they charge by the size of boxes and weight of course.. I have gone with UPS and USPS, it just depends where you are shipping from and to on the cost.. The most I haved payed to ship was to Canada from Texas was about 165 to 180. And the cheapest was around 65 to 75 with insurance to a different state. For some crazy reason it always cost me more to ship and I'm in Seguin..

Yes!! I think the people in Beaumont measure my box different. They always tell me I'm barely over the oversize limit ..... Or my post office just doesn't count that "barely over" size

If you don't have an account with one of them, be sure to go to their terminal vs a "shipping store" or you will get socked big time expense. Also don't forget insurance & make sure it says it's covered. Bought a saddle, had it shipped to me many years ago & the stupid "shipping store" the seller used charged her for UPS insurance BUT did not actually put it on the saddle. Saddle was damaged & it was mess but UPS got it straightened out (shipping store "claimed" they forgot to put it on it so THEY covered it - otherwise, UPS was shutting them down.

USPS may be a cheaper option but last time I received a saddle via USPS, it took forever, literally, to get the saddle and the tracking of packages through USPS is not as easy as FEDEX or UPS.

I have a local store in my area that can ship through UPS, FedEx, USPS, or SpeeDee. They compare prices right on the spot to see which one gives you the best rate. They also have packaging material available. They are awesome. I've shipped saddles through them for only $40. Last time I had to ship a saddle (not through them) was through FedEx and it was over $100, and I had even supplied my own box.

So call around if you can!
