Do any of you plant your pastures? If so, with what type of seed, when, any other factors? I am located in the midwest.

I am in Iowa. I see you are in Wyoming. LOL I never thought of Wy as being in the midwest.  I planted my 10 acre pasture to a pasture mix.  But after a few years about all that remains here is the grass. Then you need to tear it up and start over.

What you want to plant will depend on many factors. Contact your local NRCS office and they will put you in touch with the right person. There are resoucres out there to help you plant properly and give you tips on management so your pastures will last and continue to have good productivity and diversity. Years of abuse on pastures makes for poor diversity and you will loose your forbs and desirable grasses. Once your pastures are planted they need a few years to become established. If you do it right you will have good pastures for many decades to come.

Contact your agricultural agent. Even in Texas there are different grasses that grow better in different areas because of different types of soil, climate, etc

Well we live about 5 miles from the Nebraska border so I'd say we are pretty much Nebraska :)

The above posts about contacting your local extension agent or NRCS office are the best.  I’m an extension agent in Colorado- and the grasses I recommend in one part of the county vary drastically in another part of the county.  Size of property, how you will graze it (rotational, or another method) annual rainfall, soil type, and stocking rate will cause some big differences in recommendations.  Also know the time of year to seed will vary by location
