Location: Illinois | First thing I will say is shop around, a lot of places you pay for the name. I don't have one, but was planning on building a barn with living quarters in it next spring on a couple acres. I talked to a rep at Morton buildings, since they're from my town. Anyway, I wanted a 30x60 barn shell basically, no stalls and a 12x12 concrete pad in it for a grooming/wash are & plumbing. And a 1,000 square foot living space just roughed out, basically the slab, plumbing roughed in, walls & drywall, and rough electric. I had a company that was going to come in & finish it & I was going to build stalls on my own. So we're talking basically bare bones, no fancy add ons to the structure, just basic pole barn and they quoted me $150,000. I about passed out, I figured closer to maybe $75,000 max. I could build a 1,000sqft fully finished house for less than that here. Anyway, asked around for companies that would construct one if I bought a kit and figured out I can buy the pole barn itself and have it constructed by them, quoted $20,000 for the whole thing out the door. Then my concrete guy said $6,000 for the slabs I want and the construction company said they would finish the living space for $40,000-70,000 depending on the quality of materials, flooring, cabinets I wanted & that included plumbing & electrical & hvac. If I chose Morton buildings it would have cost me upwards of $200,000 for what I can get for around $100,000 from outsourcing different companies.
There's huge price differences everywhere. Some friends just built a 30x36 for $11,000 fully constructed by buying the kit at menards & paying someone to put it up for them. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum the place I board just paid $55,000 for a 50x70 indoor. That 50x70 indoor would have cost under $30,000 from Menards fully constructed. | I live just west of Houston so we built an open barn for the heat, it is my second one like this and I love it. I have 4 15 x 15 stalls under the overhang and a 10 x 15 hay area that shares a wall with a 20 x 25 feed room. Across the isle is a 15 x 20 tack/storage room. Solid wall is to the north so blocks the cold winter wind and we don’t have a Knouff of a winter to worry about the cold the open stall heart always has a nice breeze from the south very comfortable barn for the horses. The metal structure was around 14K then we built the stalls and fences out of 2 x 6, my husband is a contractor so we got a great deal on the lumber, not sure what retail would have been. |

Location: Texas! | We are just building a dry lot split in half and two sided run in shed (30x15) and then going to convert half of our shop into a tack/feed room with a pole barn off th back to saddle/ wash area as well as tractor storage. This we are going to be able to do mostly all ourselves and within the next year as opposed to waiting and saving several years for a barn. |

Location: NC | Agree with everyone else shop around. I called morton, amish builders and a few others. In the end went with a local contractor. Started out with half the barn last year when bought property (2 12x12 stalls, one a run in the other feed room) And then this spring finished other half (2 more 12x12 stalls with fronts, north doors, water and electric) Will probably have him out before winter to have south doors put on

I'm going to try to load a very simple design I did on the computer...
Basically it has 3 stalls on one side, and a feed room and open area on the other side.
The feed room wall that faces the open area will be a tack wall. The open area will have tie rings down the wall for saddling/grooming, and to put the outside horses under the roof when we have the occasional tropical storm or snowstorm here in south LA lol. But typically our weather is pretty mild other than the heat.
I'm SO excited to have all of my horsey things under one roof LOL...some are in the horse trailer, some in the shed, and some in our old dairy barn.
EDIT: As far as the actual construction goes, it is a pole barn. Posts set 36x36 with a roof overhang of about 4' all around. The barn will be open other than the 8' stall walls. It is 11' from the slab to the trusses on the side so plenty of airflow.

Location: SE Missouri | I finally got to a computer where I could resize the pictures!
42' x 200' metal frame, metal/stone sided standing seam roof (didn't want a leaky roof down the road):
Includes:
30' x 30' office/apartment with loft (1350 sq ft)
2 sets of 3 (6 total) - 15' x 30' stalls (actually 15'x15' inside stall with same dimension loofing area (under roof)
stalls broken up by 15 x 30 wash bay/shoeing area & 15 x 30 tack room/feed room/shavings room
42'x50' shop with bathroom and storage area.
some of the little stuff we did was make the one wall 18' tall for air movement, heated concrete in office/apartment and the whole shop floor.
Ditto on what someone said about Morton... There quote came in about 60k higher that what we are doing and it was wood..
