After all this time Renew Gold Senior is finally in my local Tractor Supply Store. I assume that means that it is in most of the 560 stores that the product launch called for. This was supposed to be on Aug 1st, but I guess three weeks late for a chain that big is not too bad. We hope to see it expand to all stores soon. Currently the 560 stores that have the highest sales of RG will get it first. I was really surprised to see the introductory price of $37.99 here in Willows CA. This is an expensive product to make, and I really expected to be priced $10 higher than that. I would guess that it will go up. This is a very targeted formulation for very active senior horses and road warrior mature horses. Not designed for retired pasture ornaments. If you have a road warrior, you might want to give this a try at the introductory price.

Would you reccomend this for a stallion during breeding season?  I'm feeding the normal formula and need a little more.

Yes, that would be a good application. The Senior has a little more energy and is digested faster in the system. Protein uptake is also faster which leads to faster recovery times. When extra energy and faster recovery is a benefit, this would be a good choice. The Senior was not formulated to be a standard RG replacement. Rather, it was designed for horses that are in constant high energy demands or stress.

Basically a weekend warrier at local shows should stick to the original formula correct?

That is correct. The main advantages found in the Senior are higher digestible energy, faster recovery times and Joint support. Horses that are run or hauled almost every day can benefit from all this. Very active older horses can also. Senior was formulated for these horses, and offers value when compared to addressing these goals separately. For most horses already on Renew Gold this additional support may not be needed.

I went into our local TSC yesterday and see that they have the Renew Gold Bisquits horse treats on the shelf also. For those of you who have been getting them in the mail, there is now an alternative. Every TSC should have them by now. Seems like our local store is the last to get anything so they should all have it by now. People have been asking if they would be available nation wide, and now they are.

I have been feeding 1.5 lbs of the original formula Renew Gold along with 1.5 lbs alfalfa pellets split into two feedings to a 16 year old weekend warrior.  I recently increased the RG to 2 lbs and switched to 2 lbs whole oats instead of alfalfa pellets because he seems to be losing some top line and there is more DE in oats than AP.  He is in the barn during the day with free choice Omnis cubes, which he will only eat about 5 lbs in about seven hours, and is turned out on pasture at night.  Would it be better to switch to the Renew Gold Senior and feed less of it?
