Anyone else out there have it? If so, how does it interfere with your ability to ride?

Had to look it up . .

I really feel for you. This is like one of the worst curses I can imagine for a horse rider. I had an infection once that made me slightly incontinent, didn't know I had one, fixed it and all fine. But it sounds like what you have is not very treatable? The articles I read talked about training, but that it did not releive the pain.

Maybe someone else will have some helpful hints!

It feels like you have a UTI frequently due to the coming and going of ulcers in the bladder wall. I haven't ridden in 4 months now on the suggestion of both my doctor and physical therapist, but not riding really hasn't helped. I was just curious if anyone else had experience with this and riding or if they had to quit.

I have had it since 2005 and it didn’t interfere with my riding until 2010, after having surgery on my knee for a meniscus tear. After the surgery, the pain in my bladder sharply increased along with urgency.

I’m so sorry you are also dealing with this life changing disease. Finding a doctor that specializes in this disease is very important. I just recently found that doctor and she has given me hope that she will be able to get this disease under enough control to give me my life back.

That's interesting, because I just read somewhere else that pain in another area of the body can make IC worse. That seems so strange to me. At this point I'm just trying to eliminate trigger foods. My doctor recommended researching Elmiron and Lyrica before my next appointment with her to see if I want to try either of those. After having the sensation of having a UTI for about 8 years now it's nice to finally have a diagnosis; however it's not exactly an easy thing to treat I'm discovering.

I'm glad you found a good doctor! It's such a private almost embarrassing problem (at least for me), that I understand the hopeless feeling that can come with it. Good luck to you!

Yes. I have good days and bad days. Mine is mostly managed by diet right now. If I eat something bad, I suffer.

How many foods do you have to avoid? I’ve learned alcohol just isn’t worth it due to the pain, and after cutting back and cutting back on coffee and even trying a low acid kind I’ve finally decided caffeine just isn’t going to work for me anymore ??

Elmiron only works 30% of the time and it can take many months before you feel a difference. You need to read about the side effects.

I follow the ICN food list.
I mainly drink water and some decaf ice tea.

10 to 15% of I/C people have hunner’s lesions.

I’ve only had one UTI in my lifetime but I get Cystitis and that really sucks.
