| For those who have experience injecting stifles,....on average, how often do you need to inject the stifles for "maintenance"??
I just had to inject a horse's stifles [due to arthritis] and I don't have any experience with this.
These are his first stifle injections....
Any tips, tricks, anything else I can do to help this gelding??
In addition to a diet that is way better than mine, lol, he has been receiving Pentosan and I also feed Actiflex and Omega Horse Shine to all my horses.
Thanks for any advice and info and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Location: Northeast SD | Depends how much they are being ran, rode, how far the arthritis is, running on rodeo ground or futurity ground, etc.
Typically I'd say every 4-5 months for a horse that is a barrel racing weekend warrior and being kept in shape.
Personally for maintenance I like Adequan and MVP 6-way. Icing after a run/workout is always helpful just like human athletes ice down afterwards.

Location: Muskogee, OK | If there is no soft tissue component (meniscus tears, cruciate tears etc), and the arthritis is not severe... the injections should last 6-12 months.
If your injections are lasting less than that there is likely either a soft tissue component to the problem OR significant arthritic disease.

Location: Illinois | I get mine done in April usually. By the time I quit for the season the end of October I can tell they need done again. Made the mistake of getting only one done the first year, always get both. I'm lucky and go to a great vet and he is very inexpensive. I get hocks, stifles, and coffins done for $450 plus gas for the 8 hour round trip. My local vet charges $300 just for hocks. If you're using the horse hard you may see you need to inject again by 6 months. Might last longer if not used hard. I highly recommend MVP Exceed as a joint supplement, and it has support for hooves, hair, muscle, digestion/gastric, vascular, respiratory, etc. So it's one that packs a big punch and is affordable. If you were interested in it, you're welcome to pm me. I'm an Ambassador & can let you know if we have any current offers/promos available.

Location: Arizona | I had a mare that had to have stifle injections. It was about every 6-8 months. We could usually tell if she ran past the barrel and didn't want to turn, it was time to inject. But I have also learned to check the hocks as well, as these joints go hand and hand. Try to get out and do some trail riding, mountains, sand, etc to help build up the stifle....
