Hey y’all! Planning a road trip where our main destination is Cheyenne Frontier Days. We will be driving from Missouri and are trying to come up with a game plan for our route. What are some sight seeing spots you recommend? Definitely going through Colorado and will be going up to Montana as well but I haven’t made this trip since I was a little kid so I need some input!

My husband and I went to Cheyenne a few years ago & found that it was way cheaper to stay in Fort Collins and Laramie. He took his fly fishing equipment and we stopped and fished all around those areas, went to the Rodeo one day, had a blast. That was one of my fondest memories.

Stop at Jackson, Wy and Cody, Wy.  The museum at Cody is great and they have a rodeo every night.   Go to the Silver Dollar Bar at Jackson and have a drink there.  Also go from Cody to Redlodge, Mt over the pass.  Good sceniery.

If you go through Fort Collins def eat at the Charco Broiler it is a very good steak house with a fantastic green chili stew and fresh cantaloupe with each meal. From there the prettiest way to Cheyenne is to Laramie then across to Cheyenne. Do not stay in Cheyenne it is super expensive during Frontier Days. Parking is horrible from what I have seen (we park in the trailer parking with contestant pass) so plan to get there early if you want a good spot. Make sure you take various clothing I have been there where it went from 80 to 40 back to 80 within a few hours.

I’m confused. Why would you go almost 6 hours out of the way one way to visit Cody from Cheyenne when you are coming from MO?

Sorry! It was pointed out that I missed part of the OP. I truly wasn’t trying to be rude or snarky.

I’d get through KS as quick as possible. Estes Park is slightly out of the way. But it’s well worth spending a day there. You can’t beat the mountains in summer and Estes is a cool town with great restaurants and lots to do. They have an awesome miniature golf course and Rocky Mountain National Park is beautiful. There’s also the Stanley Hotel.

Loveland has a ton of shopping and a huge outdoor shopping place...just don’t ask me the name because I can’t remember it...but everyone that’s been there says it’s amazing and worth going to.

From the Op's post ....... "Definitely going through Colorado and will be going up to Montana as well" ..... I would assume to Montana AFTER Cheyenne ???
