How many of y'all run horses with longer than average pasterns? I know there are plenty of successful horses in and out. But my concern is the longevity of the horse. I have a prospect that dropped with longer than average Pasterns here on the ranch. It was a surprise because I've never gotten it from that combo bred before. (Traffic guy & cow blood cross). He is a 2 yr old now and it's a debate whether to sell or to try to run after being started. What are yalls thoughts on horses in the pen with longer than average. There's tons of sales with colts nearly identical issue.

They don’t look overly long to me. I’d take too long over too short any day.

Pasterns look fine to me. If anything, I'd be more concerned about him being buck kneed. But being that is he is only 2, it'll probably go away.

Took the words right outta my mouth.  I always think of the pasterns as shock absorbers and short is miserable to ride....jars your guts out.  Never worried too much about long pasterns.

They look fine to me. If they were overly slopping (weak), that would be a concern.  I'm also not one to worry about being a touch over in the knee. That's way more desirable than back-in-the-knee.

Looks good to me -- rather long than short IMHO.

They don't look too long to me. Ditto to what the others said about too long vs too short patterns.

Side note....I love the markings on his face!

He's a doll; reminds me of my Doodlebug with that tongue hanging out!
