Need a saddle for my boy I just got - like to stick with the Shiloh line as I like how they ride. I have a Jerri Mann for my one horse but it is way too narrow for my new guy. I'm unfamiliar with the other trees (I do have a message out to Shiloh as well). Any suggestions? Will try to post pics of how the JM fits.

He is not atrophied - the lighting is just weird in this photo.

I have bought and sold 2 JP contenders with 7" gullets.
I LOVE these saddles, but they're just too wide for my horses. May work for yours!!!!

Could be! I tried a Shiloh Ed Wright today and it was pinching and perching where the circle is. Doesn't make the greatest contact where the arrow is. I try a contender tomorrow so hoping that's the trick otherwise may bite the bullet and just buy a Flying M (I've heard those are the widest)

I ride a 2x4 cutting horse so it's been a long time since I've had to shop for a wide one lol.

Tried the contender today among many others that just did not work. All pinched in that same spot, it did have more flare for his shoulders but still perched up - like he needs a saddle with a little wider channel/gullet towards the front. The search continues.

I just went through the same problem with my Contender pinching my new gelding in that spot and causing him to get sore. The Contender fit well when I bought him, but we went through some major conditioning and he built a lot of muscle causing it to not fit.  I had a 7in gullet and thought I would need a 7W. My trainer rides in a Robbie Phillips 7R and it fit like a glove. I talked to Robbie, as I was going to have one made, and he thinks the Continder's bar angles are just a little smaller than his. I was so sad my Contender didn't fit as I loved it but I think the Robbie's rides a lot like the Shiloh, so that might be something to think about.

Thank you! Robbie comes a couple times a year to our area so luckily quite a few people have them around here. I've always liked the look of them but never really had the need to try one until now. I'll have to track one down :

That's what I did - I love Shiloh contenders but since they don't fit my horses, I placed an order for a custom Robbie Phillips.

I have a Jerri Mann with a 7" gullet, and another one that's made on a Flying M tree with a 7.25" gullet. The horse that was pinched by the Contender, the 7.25 fit him perfectly.  Had plenty shoulder flare, quite a bit more than the regular JM tree.  The horse I ride the 7" on, I actually liked the Robbie 7 XW on him better, but it didn't fit me right. I think I needed a smaller seat size.

Thank you for the info! I tried a Vernon Purdy today which fit him almost too perfect - I added a 3/4" pad (that's the thinnest I usually like to ride) and it was amost too much. Of course the $4k saddle fits the $5k horse.

There's a girl in my area that has a 7" Flying M so might just bite the bullet and haul over to try it.
