To help heal a tendon? What have you had your best luck with?

Whatever the vet tells you to do. plus Runner's Rellief.  But you have to be very consistent! and dont rush the healing process! and ultrasound every so often so vet can gauge your healing! Good luck!

Thanks, doing exactly what you suggested, even re-checks with the vet.

will try the runners relief. It is a lateral separationin in the DD.

cold therapy, whether its ice boot/wrap or hosing. The controlled exercise rehab is probably the most important. I also always use Runners Relief and then after most of the major initial swelling stays down I just use regular DiO. I have a 27 year old thats halter bred, he was my first horse almost 20 years ago, and he has toothpick legs and really weak tendons. He's on his 3rd tendon tear now and he's done 2 ligaments as well. I don't even need to go to the vet anymore to have it checked, I just tell them he's done it again and we move into our usual rehab program lol. I've also lost use of one completely because we left him on stall rest too long and the scar tissue formed horizontally instead of vertically and wrapped and bound both tendons together. And was in a place where surgery was too risky. I should have started his controlled exercise sooner, but he had other issues going on that I couldn't. He tried to climb a round pen panel and had tendons & ligaments exposed all over

Time, time, time.

And PEMF!! I do truly feel like it helped.

I've had two horses with tendon injuries. One was very minor. Caught it on a "normal" lameness eval - horse was having no problems. Small tear/separation in the pastern (can't remember which specific tendon it was). Was not healed after several months of confinment per ultrasound. Then I kicked him out to pasture for 1 1/2 years after that (had a baby) and then slowly brought back into work. Has been fine since. He still flexes off on that foot sometimes, but nothing's ever changed on it.

Other horse had a "bigger" injury in the deep digital but it was above the ankle (nothing below). Chose not to confine him and just turned him out to pasture for a year. Still was not healed after a year but vet cleared us for easy riding. Started doing PEMF treatments on him, and it was completely scarred over and healed in a few months. (Vet was surpised and so was I.) That was last year, and I started barrel racing on him again this year (selective places) and it's holding (almost 3 years post injury). He has other issues, and he actually feels the best he ever has in a long while.

But time! You have to be patient. Tendons take such a long time.

Time and cold therapy are your best freinds.

I've only had one with a tendon injury. He was 3 (almost 4). It was very minor, right front fetlock area. He was on stall rest at first, and we soon started letting him be out on pasture as much as he wanted. It really helped him.

As for cold therapy, icing his legs and hosing them off are basics that should be done. We got cold laser done a couple of times aswell. We would ice his legs with the ice vibes every 3-4 days.

As for time, it took a while to get him healed up, about a year. Sadly, even though he is recovered, we have noticed a decline in performance. He's a racehorse, we don't like to overrun our racehorses. Maximum of 1 time per month (2 if they qualify for a derby). He didn't race in his furturity year (2 yo) and people have said that's part of the reason.

He used to run max 350 yrds, now his max is 250/300 yds depending on the surface. Not much of a difference, but he fires a lot later than the other horses.

I've started my one 25 year old gelding on a product by Uckele called Tendon EQ pellets.  Seems to be working somewhat.  I have been told that he has DSLD but I have not confirmed this yet and my new farrier does not seem to think so.  Might try it I just order it directly from Uckele.
