So I got a new trailer last month in Kentucky, it came with a title and they filled out their name and address on the back to transfer. However, there is no signatures or notory and now I cannot transfer the title into my name without it. (I live in Ohio.) Yes, I know I should've made sure it was signed but I didn't see a place for them to sign either and I looked it over like the original owners did. It is kind of confusing because the place to sign is right underneath the boat section and I missed it as well so I can't blame them for it. Anyways, I am trying to get ahold of the original owner and so far no luck. Our original conversation was deleted and she has it set where you cannot send her a friend request on Facebook. I messaged her of course but I am worried she will not see my message request. I am not sure what to do if I cannot get ahold of her. The BMV/Title dept are not being much help at all and it's getting stressful. Has anyone been through this? It weighs over 4000lbs so in Ohio a title is required. I need to get the title in my name and get tags of course. :(

Hmm, that seem's like a tough situation. I don't think there's a shortcut other than getting them to sign. I also don't think they'd have any reason to dodge you for this. Do you have a phone number for them? Any mutual friends you could get to them through? Mailing address where you picked it up that you could send a letter?

Hijacking your post, as I was hoping it would answer a question I have about salvage title on trailers!  5 years ago my horse trailer was paid off as a total loss because of hail damage.  The only damage is to the roof, and it's purely cosmetic.  You can't see it unless you have a ladder!  We had the roof sealed, and have had no issues at all.  What I am wondering is if I sell it, would it then have a salvage title?  And if so, then the new owners would be unable to insure it?  They gave me the option of partial payment and not declaring a total loss.  I'm wishing now that I had done that instead.

If you send them a letter, be sure and do some kind of tracking.
