Hi everyone. Long story short I lost my heart horse and had to put him down after a fatal riding accident. My boyfriend tried to help by getting me another horse but little did we know the horse was a nutcase and ended up doing a pretty good number on me, mentally and physically. We soon got rid of him I also was taking in rescues to rehab them and find them homes but that was getting to much for me. So I ended up shutting that down now I feel lost. Most of my life I took in rescues. Now i want to do something else that can help me heal,. As it both mentally and physically drained me. I had surgery on my right knee after the horse attacked me. Had 2 tears in the meniscus and my knee twisted on me as well so they had to put my knee back in place. They sent me home with no physical therapy as we are going through that covid at that time. Now I want to slowly get back into the horse world again and find my purpose. I have a few interests  I want to look into doing and I want to do research on each one .I currently live on an acre. Which doesn't give me much room and I am limited to what I can do. We will eventually move out but it will be a good few years down the road. Does anyone have any suggestions? The ideas i had in mind was western pleasure, reining, cutting, show jumping, dressage, western dressage.any of the Horse shows, horse racing. I live in Simpson lousiana or maybe endurance race? I want to look for shows or events that I can go to observe and watch to see which one I want to do. Is there any websites to go to do my research ? Or know when an event is coming up? I need help as I am also fighting depression and just have no motiveation anymore and miss having a horse. I dont want to rush getting me another horse either yet till I can figure out what type of horse I want and what event I want to get into. Thanks in advance.

Bless it, you don't live near much unless you want to jockey a race horse. My advice is to 1. Pick a style. English or Western 2.YouTube the events and watch the amateurs. 3. Seek out FB friends and trainers who compete in your chosen events and pick their brains. Considerations include the expense of a safe horse that can compete and average distance to shows. Make it social and fun. Here's a story. My husband decided that he wanted to compete in mounted shooting. He had a horse that he could shoot off of. He bought the expensive pistols and holsters. The only competitions are 4 to 5 hours away and only occur twice a year. He very quickly lost interest. He had to drive two and a half hours just to practice with one other competitor who worked offshore most of the year. He lost interest after only a year.

Could you take some lessons in some of the disciplines you are interested in? That could help your decide which discipline you like the best and give you a horse fix while building up some confidence. It would also give you someone to ask questions to, provide insight and make sure you fit financially and with the type of people that make up that discipline. With how expensive horses and their associated needs are with each discipline this could be a way to try out a lot of things before all of the horses, saddles, equipment, ect. are bought.

I still have my barrel saddle, and western show saddle as I was orginally planning on doing horse shows when I was younger but other things got in the way at that time. and I didnt have the chance. And I just recently bought an used English saddle i think it's a hunter jumper. Although i have thought about selling most of my horse tack and just starting over again .that is a really good idea though instead of going to actual events or shows just take riding lessons in each one and see which one I like the best and that way too I can do like you said and ask them about those events. And who knows maybe the riding instructor may be able to help me with figuring out which way to go. and doing riding lessons would help with therapy and strengthen my knee up. ??thanks I'll look into that option may be cheaper way to figure things out.
