Do you guys turn out your horses together or do you keep them separate?

I have 1 mare that has issues when a horse gets in her bubble. She has hurt horses in the past, so now she lives by herself with the miniature donkey. She tolerates him.

The other mare lives with the 2 geldings in 1 pasture.

Mine are turned out in small groups (2-4) depending on who gets along with who. My pastures are 5-15 acres in size.

We have most turned out in small groups of 2-4 horses, but there are a couple who do best on their own (for various reasons: one is an alligator with other horses and the other freaks about others getting near her when she's eating) so they share a fence with their friends but are in their own lot and everybody is happy! :)

I have 3 horses together in a 5 acre trap/pasture - (whatever you wanna call it) and it works out great.  A few years back, my mother in law had to be out of town for a couple weeks and she brought her 2 horses over - one of her horses was such a bully, I had to put him out with the cows, her little mare was fine in with my three. So, it depends if everyone can get along.

I have 4. They are currently all turned out together. I'm not really set up to have horses in individual areas.

We have a lot of horses but have found that keeping all the geldings together and the mares together works the best. We also keep the geldings in the first few turnouts and the mares in the next few turnouts so that there isn't mares inbetween geldings. I do the same in our barn/small pens. I don't typically have an issue with mares. I have an issue with geldings thinking they are stallions and running the other geldings off and circling the mares. Sometimes the geldings will still run the fence with mares on the other side but they usually give it up fairly quickly.

I have 6 pens, all just over 1 acre. I've had as many as 15 horses but now only 5. The stallion lives by himself and one mare who starts kicking when she sees the food cart roll (no matter that she's alone!) and who has kicked a couple other horses bad at feed time. The rest are grouped per feed needs. I do like to try to mix up the groups every once in a while so I don't get any buddy sour horses but will usually leave the two overly bonded horses next to each other for a bit so they don't stress too much.

I have 6 and turn out mares together and geldings together.   We've had issues/injuries trying to keep them in one large pasture.

I have a mare and gelding. They lived turned out together. They have had a few scrapes and cuts on them over the years but nothing major that they did to each other. In my opnion the best thing you can do for them is turn them out and let them be horses.

Mine are currently all in their own small pasture (about an acre a piece) . Used to keep the one gelding and the older mare together until the mare at about 8 years old decided she was going to kill the gelding so we seperated them and then the younger of the mare's is one with kidney stones and has to be on a llittle different supplement and feed plan as everyone else.
