| I am looking to upgrade my trailer. I currently have a 2003 CM 10' sw 3 horse. I haul with a 2014 Ram 2500 long bed with air bags. The trailer I am interested in is a 2005 Sundowner 14' sw 3 horse with couch and dinette, no slide out or anything. My husband says that is too much trailer for my truck but other people tell me it is fine. The most I will ever haul is 2 horses at a time (locally) and the majority of the time it is just 1 horse. Last year we bought a 2000 CM 16' sw 3 horse with couch and dinette and originally started pulling it with my ram 2500 and my husband said it was too heavy for the truck (but i think he was just saying that so i would buy him a dually lol). He now hauls that trailer with the dually and i haul my 10' with the 3/4 ton. I'm curious if others think the 14' sw would be too much trailer for my 3/4 ton. I really love this trailer but i'm not in the position to be able to buy a second dually right now so i don't want to put myself in a bind. Pics are of the trailer I am interested in

Location: Dubach, LA | - It's not the pulling, it's the stopping. If you only haul locally, why do you need that much trailer? Regardless of weight, I wouldn't pull anything that big without six tires on my truck.

| Locally is when I haul 2 (mine and then my daughter's horse for her to run kiddie barrels). I haul my 1 horse for weekend long barrel races often which are 2-5 hours away. I work remotely now so if I had the extra room I could go to more of the bigger jackpots that start on week days and still be able to work. I do understand what you are saying though. Thank you for taking the time to answer :) |

| How much does the trailer weigh when fully loaded? |

Location: CTX | Honestly I agree with your husband. I would not want to pull that with anything less than a dually. Like mentioned before, it's not the pulling but the stopping. It also looks like the trailer is 8' wide... for that I like the stability that a dually will give you also. JMHO, but I'd rather have to much truck anytime I'm pulling a trailer. |

Location: Claremore, OK | That trailer will push a 3/4 ton all over the place and it will squat it down a bunch. You wont be able to stop, even if you're empty.I think (not sure) Sundowners in those years had metal frames which would make it even heavier than it looks. |

| Thanks everyone. I'll stick with just getting another 10' sw to stay safe. Thanks for all the replies |

| I got a (new to me) 3H Sundowner 8010 last year, pulling with an F250 single axle. We had to add a helper spring to the truck to help with leveling the trailer (lessening the squat of the truck). I am at the absolute max the truck can handle with this trailer, and the helper spring made the difference between scary and good hauling. Even with the helper spring the trailer sits and pulls a lot better with 1 or 2 horses than empty. I would think the 8014 would be dangerous to a 2500 single axle. |

| I have a 8010 (10' SW) 2008 Sundowner 3H. We have a 2018 1 ton dually and that trailer is HEAVY. |

Location: Where the buffalo roam | I am going to disagree with all of these people especially about the dually piece. I pulled our 3H Bloomer (with 3 horses) with a 14' short wall (no slide) all over the Western US with a HD 3/4-ton Dodge (not a dually) and then eventually with a 1-ton Chevy Duramax (not a dually). I am in Montana and have never had an issue with stopping or towing or stability even in bad winds (we live in a high wind area). I usually have to go over at least two steep mountain passes to get to a barrel race and have never had a problem with slowing down or keeping my speed under control. Good driving makes a lot of difference. |

Its about legality to. Even if your rig pulls and stops, if your in a wreck insurance will send you down the river if your within the towing capacity of your truck. If the combined is over 26K you need a CDL by federal law. |

This! And my husband would tell you the same thing your husband is telling you. |

Location: Where the buffalo roam | I am not over the 26K and if you do research, you will find that many of the 2500HDs of any make are actually one-ton pickups, but can charge less for them if they are shown as a 3/4-ton. I had air rides on my 3/4 ton and it never squatted down. I have hauled all over the country with both duals and without and the only time I had a stability issue was in a one-ton Ford with duals and a large camper pulling a 3-horse bumper pull. It was the worst truck I ever pulled with and I'm very glad it did not belong to me. |

Location: in the ozone | To be safe and legal, you need to compare the loaded pin weight of the trailer to the payload of the truck. I would guarantee it will be over a 3/4T's payload. Listen to your husband. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I personally would not haul the bigger trailer with a 3/4 ton. Its better to be over trucked then under. The dually gives you so much more stability and stopping power. |

NOPE! Very much female, from birth even! I just know what to do to make sure you are safe (and legal), especially when pulling a trailer with live, moving/shifting weight, animals. Plus, I value my life, my family's, my horses and others on the road to take stupid chances. And I had an insurance agent tell me that your insurance can drop you like a hot potato if you are in an accident, and you are overweight (and especially if you are found at fault). Liability can get to be a very expensive lifelong obligation. |
