Hello everyone, 

I am looking for options here.... My 3 year old filly is definetely not handling her heat cycles the best way. She has been riding very well until her cycle started .  What do you guys suggest besides regumate? (I rather not use it!) What has worked for you? Yes, I will make an appt to have her checked by the vet but I am willing to try any supplement that might also help her.

Vet check done!  she has been diagnosed with Pneumo Vagina with referred pain.  The vet did sew her up and that will hopefully help her in the future. I am also going to purchase some herbs and hope that does the trick! When she is not in heat she is plain amazing to handle and to ride!

My mare was the same way. Cycles were just absolutely painful. I BRIEFLY tried herbal junk but regumate is the only way! SHe has been on it 365 days a year for the last 8 years and is a happy performance horse! 

She ought to chill over spring and fall. If she doesn't, a vet check may be necessary. Maybe cysts or an infection.

Those first few cycles of the year can be hard especially on a young mare. I would definitely have her ultra sounded for an y cysts or abnormalties. Then discuss with the vet your options. Regumate in their feed once a day is honestly simple. Not many herbal things are going to help if they truely have that hard of cycles. 

Same here - my last year of running was an up and down roller coaster bc my yella mare is a "delicate flower" 

So the "magic" combo so far this year for her has been 10cc Regumate AND a handful of Mare Magic - im talking a fist full - not that laughable scoop they put in the bag 

YES she is running consistent now BUT Regumate doesnt NOT stop the cycle - it just diminshes the cycle 

I always "assumed" it made the body go "yo im prego no more cycles" that is not the case - my mare still cycles BUT its managable now.....

Thanks everyone...  Here is a bit of history of what's goin on... She is not even 3 yet, she will be 3 in July.  She has about 90 days of professional  training.  She was doing amazing until the very day before we had to bring her home... then out of the blue when the trainer went to get on her, she was antsy.  she did not want to be quiet.  Trainer was trying to keep her still (making her bend on the pole and pushing with her legs and just making her stay still) and my filly lost her sh** and flipped over with the trainer (CARDINAL SIN! ).  After that ordel and LOTS OF reprimands and making her reconsider her choices, she rode her another two days..  the next day she was ok, the second day she was ****y.  

She is in heat and her behavior changed radically once her cycle started.  She went from a very good tempered mare and pleasant to ride to well.. rogue!  We brought her home yesterday as I had the chiropractor coming and I wanted her to get checked.  She had 3 ribs out, withers, hip etc but pbb is for when she flipped over.  I also have a vet appt for her on Tuesday just to check her all over and also to make sure she doesn't have a cyst in her ovaries... basically trying to eliminate any physical problems. 

Her bloodline is Frenchmans guy/doc a Lena.  she has never ever ever since he bought her as a yearlin ever offered to do anything stupid, we have hauled her to barrel races, done everyting with her on the ground, the trainer took her to trail rides for hours etc and she was really good so we are all shocked at this new behavior. 

I would love to try anything that I can before we decide to get her a new zipcode..... to say that I am upset it is an understatement as I truly love this filly.

I would say if it just flipped a switch like that one day that something is in pain on her.. Whether that be her cycles or something else physically on her body. I would have her completely gone over by the vet. Lameness, Kissing Spine, Ulcers, Dental, ultrasound/xray joints. They are growing a lot at this stage and also have growing pains. She could have gotten in a wreck in her pen/stall overnight and did something to harm herself that is not appearing on the outside. 

My mares have a caslick but another option is a pellet. 

can you clarify what is a pellet? a supplement? 

We brough her home last thursday.  The chiropractor came over and we got her adjusted.  the next day we treated her for ulcers and put her on gut x daily.  She has a vet appointment today.  I rode her yesterday and she was PERFECT

So pain did play a part in her behavior. Thank you for letting us know. And kudos to you for listening to her and taking the time and spending the money to find the reasons.
