MY Six year old Barrel Horse has been breathing loudly at a trott and lope. Not quite  a roar or a wheez but just loud.  Occasionally loud when I even just walk her across the yard to the trailer.   I had her endoscoped at a rest everything was fine.  Was given clenbuterol to give twice daily.  She does not always do it.  Could it be from excitement?

No drainage, no coughing.  Still performing.  No resistance

A Bal and Endoscope while breathing heavy is next on my list along with a. Allergy test.

Has anyone dealt with this?

Are some horses just noisey

It seems worse when we are in an unfamiliar place.

My good mare sounds like a freight train when she knows she is at the rodeo . But only happens when your on her warming up etc . Not just tied to trailer or at home . I would suggest getting a good nebulizer and using that . Mine love it

I just went through this with my mare. She warmed up fine but when I'd work her on slow work at a lope she would start making a noise like she was gasping for breath. When she competed she was fine, but we found out she bled. Anyway I took her to be scoped and she has some soft palet issues. She had surgery last week and will be fine. My vet also said this palet problem could be the reason she bled when she was with some friends of mine for some extra training. Hopefully once she heals she won't bleed. The sad thing is her recovery will be slow so no barrel racing until next year but thats ok, I just want her to be able to breath. She would get upset and scared when this happened. I felt so bad for her. I have copd so I know how it feels to be gasping for breath.
