| Hi All! I am needing to hear everyone's feed recommendations. We have 3 horses 15yrs-20yrs old on Purina Impact Professional Performance and are feeding them at the recommended rate, as well as them being out on pretty decent pasture full time. They have all lost weight except the 15 yr old and that mare is on CEP Vitality and Hoof RX. The other two are on no supplements. Two are being rode 2-3 times a week and competed on during the weekends, while the other is retired and doing nothing. What is working best for you? At $25 a bag this isn't feasible for us for the feed to not be maintaining the horses. |

Location: Illinois | I feed hay only now, at $6.50 for a 70lb of straight alfalfa its cheaper for me to feed more hay and eliminate grain. However I was feeding tribute kalm n ez before I went hay only and was happy. The most I ever had to feed one was 3lbs a day, and he was 29 and hard to keep. My other 2 ate around a half scoop a day which is about 1.5lbs in the scoop I have. Kalm Ultra is also an option, it has higher fat content. I will always feed Tribute over Purina or Nutrena personally, and its cheaper, at least where I'm at |

Central IL. Its $7 if its put up in his barn, or $6.50 if I pick it up off the rack or out of the field which I usually do. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I am doing a mainly forage based diet. I have a retired horse, 32 yrs and my number one that is 20. They have free choice hay and some pasture. The retired one gets 1 1/2 lbs TC Senior along with 1 "cup" sainfoin pellets (measured in an 8 oz sour cream container). He still has most of his teeth - food is soaked. My 20 yr old gets a handful of TC Senior with the sainfoin pellets. The total amount is equal to the 8oz sour cream container. She also gets 707 Daily essentials and Gut Check. Both are fed only once a day, are of good flesh and dappled. |

| The first thing that I would do is have their teeth checked by an equine dentist. I got where I could not get the feed I was feeding so had to change. This is a regional feed so you may not be able to get it. I started feeding BIG V FEEDS which are made in OK. The 12% protein, 8% fat is what I changed to. My horses have never looked better. Believe it is less than $15 a sack. I have one broodmare that needs a 14% proten feed and and hers is $22 a sack and she looks terrific. I live in NE TX. If that is not availabe in your area, there might be a local mill that has a quality product. Purina is good feed but you pay a lot of the name |

| Not sure where you are located, but try to find Dove Performance Nutrition. I fed Purina Impact Performance Professional for a while and not sure if it changed formulas or what but started noticing corn in it, which it was supposed to be corn free... went from that to Hygain and liked it until they decided they were leaving the US. Took the jump to Dove and I am thoroughly impressed with how all of my horses look! I have 3 yr old- 32 yr old on their Magnify HF. My mare that is super easy keep is on Fortify. |

I think Purina had issues for awhile with corn. We have a horse boarded that eats Strategy and there was a period of time where at least 20% of the bag was whole corn kernels. Purina said not possible, but that horse ended up eating at least 20 bags like that before it went back to normal. There were a lot of FB posts about it from people all over the country, but Purina denied it like they do everything...surprise surpise |
